I took Life Drawing class from Professor Running as a Luther freshman in 1976. He truly changed the way I see the world, and was one of my favorite teachers. Years later, he still remembered me. He was a kind and gifted man. Thank you, Orville.

As a former student of both Orville Running and his wife, Marjorie, I have a deep respect and appreciation for their willingness to share their collective wisdom. Many times in my life, I have reflected my early education that included a solid study of design and art appreciation. Orville’s special brand of humor and his high regard for skilled craftsman has stayed with me. His advice to “measure twice, cut once” applies to all life endeavors.

We have been fortunate to have had such a long and special relationship with Orville and his family.
We extend our sympathies to family members and share in your sadness that such a great man is gone.
We have missed our visits with him the last years. Rest in Peace.

Marjorie, and family, please accept my deepest sympathy upon the passing of your father. You were very fortunate to have such a faithful and gifted dad. The many comments from friends and students are a testimony to his value in people's lives. Marjorie, we were friends at the West Side, but I did't really know your Dad. I'm sorry that I didn't. God bless you as you think about the meaningful memories you had of your Dad, and Mother. Love, Cathy

To the Family of Orville Running. As you celebrate the life of father and grandfather and wonderful Christian witness, give thanks for beauty so well displayed in words, works and wisdom. I remember your loved one as teacher and friend when I was at Luther and a classmate of George. Rosalie Grangaard Grosch
